Works of art stolen in Palermo

Since a long time, Palermo and Sicily, where most of our national artistic heritage is located , have been exposed to systematic despoliation of their trasures (painting, statues, mosaic, precious objects) from churches, museum, state palaces, villas and private houses.
From the most clomorous thefts, as that of the renowned Nativity by Caravaggio, taken from St.Lorenzo Oratory in 1969, to those, by far les striking - but nevertheless relevant - of part of ceramic floor tiles, precious furniture and sacred objects.
Preserving and making the most out of one's own artistic and cultural heritage is a specific duty of any local Council, as it is everybody's duty to give any known useful information in order to find the stolen works and give them back for public enjoyment.
This is the aim with which Palermo Town Council and the Sicilian Section of the Historical Houses Association in collaboration with Nucleo Tutela Partimonio Artistico dei Carabinieri and Sovrintendenza ai Beni Culturali e Ambientali della Regione Siciliana, have created this space which consist of a list of information charts of 380 works of art stolen since 1969.
Should anyone have any news about these works, he may telephone even anonymously, to the telephone number +039.91.422772  or to +39.91.422825 of the Carabinieri Group.

Should you want to add any other photografic documentation, please telephone to the above mentioned telephone number of the Carabinieri Group.
